Environmental Volunteers Team

Everyone in Framlingham is aware of annoying issues with overgrown trees, hedges and encroaching vegetation on the footpaths. It is the responsibility of Suffolk County Council to maintain the roads and footpaths, and they will respond and rectify issues that are reported to them. The problem is that they have a great many issues to deal with and it can often take a long time for them to get round to fixing those in our town.
Clearing pathway brambles and weeds on an individual ad hoc basis is both difficult and not without risk. Clearly we need a more sustainable solution.
The Town Council is able to organise volunteers to deal with minor things like overgrown vegetation and weeds around the town and on footpaths. Volunteers would be supplied with High Viz clothing and tools, and will always work with a Councillor, and a risk assessment is made for each programme of work. With these procedures in place, all volunteers will be covered by the Town Council's insurance, and we will be able to deal with minor issues quickly.
We are looking for volunteers to join our new Environmental Team - the bigger the team, the easier the work. The first project will be to clear the encroaching grass and weeds along the Station Road footpath on Sunday 25th September, meeting outside The Station at 10am with whatever tools might be useful, especially spades and wheelbarrows.
All those that are willing to help please contact James at the Town Council via email: dtc@framlingham.com or leave a message on 01728 720183.
And put the date in your diary!
