Kate Foley, award-winning local poet, will be reading from her work and discussing 'The how and why of poetry writing'
Kate, whose early working life included midwifery and teaching before she embarked on a long-term career in archaeological science and conservation, nowadays spends her time between Suffolk and Amsterdam. Since retirement, she has enjoyed devoting herself full-time to poetry and is currently working on her eleventh book. Her most recent full collections of poetry are A Gift of Rivers (Arachne Press, 2018) and Electric Psalms new and selected poems (Shoestring Press, 2016).
She has also published in a wide variety of magazines and several anthologies. Kate has given readings at most of the major poetry venues in London and Amsterdam and frequently leads poetry workshops in Holland and the UK. Until this spring Kate was President of Suffolk Poetry Society.
Kate Foley's event is the highlight of Framlingham Library's month-long celebration of poetry through workshops, readings, interactive activities, and displays. An adult poetry workshop took place earlier in the month, and for children there will be 'Let's Write a Poem!' on 25 October, an activity hour of listening to and creating poems. The library's 'PoetTree', a community poem-sharing project of handwritten poetry on paper leaves hung from a twiggy 'tree', continues throughout October, inviting library visitors of all ages to enjoy reading the poems and to add their own to the tree.
The event is free, though donations to the library are welcome; refreshments will be served.
