Jim Broadbent stars...

Film@Fram: THE DUKE (2020) 12

Wed, 06 Jul 2022 19:30

Director: Roger Michell With Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren
Runtime: 96 mins
LANGUAGE: ENGLISH

In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60 year old taxi driver, stole Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. He sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly. What happened next became the stuff of legend. An uplifting true story about a good man who set out to change the world and managed to save his marriage.

It's a delightful, gentle British comedy, and it stars Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren. What more could you ask for?

Doors open 19:00. Members £4, Vistors/Guests £6

"It's a beautifully designed film blending newsreel footage to create evocative images of London in the 1960s. Jim Broadbent delivers a spotless performance as the everyman biting back at the system. A fine cast provide sterling support in a film that ends too quickly. Times change but not always for the better, and we often sacrifice important values in the name of progress. The Duke proves that some old fashioned ways are still relevant today. A delightful film that will get nowhere near the attention it deserves." UK Film Review
"It is Broadbent and Mirren who are the beating heart of this delightful film." Daily Mail

Streets Alive!

Streets Alive!

Eastern Angles Streets Alive!

Saturday 16th July 11am - 12pm

Music and street theatre parade through Framlingham Town Centre from the Pageant Field at 10.30am all the way down to Market Hill.

Eastern Angles take free theatre to the streets of Suffolk this Summer!

Since 1982 Eastern Angles have been known as the touring theatre company for the East of England, always pushing the boundaries of the region's cultural offering – this July they'll be breaking out of the venue mould and performing on the streets of Suffolk with their new project Streets Alive!

Streets Alive aims to capture the magic of Suffolk stories and bring them to life on local high streets. Stilt walking, puppetry and music combine in outdoor performances that will parade through the streets of Suffolk market towns and school playgrounds.

Speaking about the project, Eastern Angles' Artistic Director Ivan Cutting said: "This is about getting shoppers back into the town centre and generally making the High Street an attractive and exciting place to be, especially where pedestrianisation makes it safe and natural to watch the world go by."

The project will bring two historical figures back to Suffolk – local heroine Margaret Catchpole, who "borrowed" a horse for the ride of her life and a ride through history, and 13th century North African Musician, The Ipswich Man, whose bones were found in a recent excavation of the town's Greyfriars hospital cemetery.

Head to www.easternangles.co.uk for more info, or ring the Eastern Angles team on 01473 211498.

This project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Suffolk Covid Continuity Fund and the Ipswich Business Growth & Innovation Fund.
