Kate Foley Brings Poetry to Framlingham Library

Kate Foley Brings Poetry to Framlingham Library

Mon, 31 Oct 2022 11:00

Kate Foley, award-winning local poet, will be reading from her work and discussing 'The how and why of poetry writing'

Kate, whose early working life included midwifery and teaching before she embarked on a long-term career in archaeological science and conservation, nowadays spends her time between Suffolk and Amsterdam. Since retirement, she has enjoyed devoting herself full-time to poetry and is currently working on her eleventh book. Her most recent full collections of poetry are A Gift of Rivers (Arachne Press, 2018) and Electric Psalms new and selected poems (Shoestring Press, 2016).

She has also published in a wide variety of magazines and several anthologies. Kate has given readings at most of the major poetry venues in London and Amsterdam and frequently leads poetry workshops in Holland and the UK. Until this spring Kate was President of Suffolk Poetry Society.

Kate Foley's event is the highlight of Framlingham Library's month-long celebration of poetry through workshops, readings, interactive activities, and displays. An adult poetry workshop took place earlier in the month, and for children there will be 'Let's Write a Poem!' on 25 October, an activity hour of listening to and creating poems. The library's 'PoetTree', a community poem-sharing project of handwritten poetry on paper leaves hung from a twiggy 'tree', continues throughout October, inviting library visitors of all ages to enjoy reading the poems and to add their own to the tree.

The event is free, though donations to the library are welcome; refreshments will be served.

Mindfulness & Creative Writing Workshop

Mindfulness & Creative Writing Workshop

Mon, 14 Nov 2022 13:30

Mindfulness & Creative Writing Workshop

1.30pm-4.00pm

Mindfulness and creative writing are a magical combination.Mindfulness helps us develop a certain quality of awareness and attention to ourselves and our surroundings. It gets us in a headspace where we can let our imaginations run free and flow as easily and gently as our breath.

I combine teaching mindfulness with the art of creative writing to enable you to become more present, calm, creative and expressive. Through workshops I guide you gently through practices and exercises that enable you to become present and let your imagination flow. I welcome those new to both mindfulness and writing.
All you need is an open mind, a notebook and a pen.

A Night at the Musicals

A Night at the Musicals

Sat, 19 Nov 2022 19:00

A Night at the Musicals with International Classical Chart topper Soprano, Christina Johnston and Professional Musical theatre singer and writer Catherine Bensley.

Christina and Catherine met after both having relocated back to their home county of Suffolk just before the Covid pandemic.

Catherine has recently written a brand new musical called "Chronic" which debuted at the Tristan Bates Theatre and transferred to the Southwark Playhouse for a night.
Catherine, a well-established musical theatre performer and writer, trained and graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and since has performed at the Southwark Playhouse and the Unicorn Theatre.

The evening to also feature 5 Framlingham College music students performing and all accompanied by extraordinary pianist and musician, Geoff Lavery.

Set to be an outstanding musical celebration from, Les Miserables, The Light in the Piazza, Cats, The King and I, Showboat, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Carousel and many more!

Christina who is from Framlingham and studied at Framlingham College said: "For me as a student to have worked with people in the industry that I was so passionate to enter would have been a dream, so now for me as a professional singer it is important to inspire and work with students who have a passion to begin their musical careers. If I, or any of my professional friends can help, inspire or give any advice, I feel we have helped in a little way."

Come and join Christina and Catherine for this, not to be missed, magical 'Night at the Musicals' with wine and refreshments available to purchase in the interval.

Tickets: £18/£15
