Villages around Fram |

BRANDESTON
The village where Lady Jane Turnbull, the last direct descendant
of Lady Jane Grey, died in 1991. Her memorial candlestick can be seen
in the Church. Another famous resident was John Lowes (15721646)
who was found guilty of witchcraft by the Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins and hanged
at Bury St Edmunds.
Margaret Catchpole
may have been born in Brandeston and
Sir Ghillian Tolmie Prance curator of Kew Gardens 1988-1999
certainly was. |

DENNINGTON
The view down the 130 feet length of St Mary's Church is glorious. The church houses the Bardolph Tomb which commemorates
Sir William Phelip. |
|
EASTON
This delightful village was home to the Duke of Hamilton,
Premier Duke of Scotland. His house was razed to the ground
in 1924 but visitors can still see the charming black
and white houses which the Duke had built. Easton also has a splendid
crinkle crankle wall. |

KETTLEBURGH In 1867 James Brighton Grant, owner of the Deben Brewery
then next to
The Chequers, was the last man in England to
be imprisoned for non-payment of Church Rates. He gathered support
from two Members of Parliament and was released. Gladstone subsequently repealed the Act. Love flourished in Kettleburgh
during the rectorship of Samuel Thompson. Between 1696 and 1738 he
joined together in holy matrimony a total of 618 couples. |
