New Initiative from Co-op
Added on Saturday 9th December

30%-50% of food produced globally for human consumption is wasted every year - that's 18-20 tonnes per year in the UK. The Co-op is trying to reduce its food waste by selling food past the Best Before Date and keeping as much food as possible in the food chain, even it means selling it for just 10p. The food available is mainly tinned and dried goods which are unlikley to cause harm or injury but the advice is to eat it as soon as possible after purchase - it is legally allowed to sell food past the BB date. This offer does not include fresh produce. This food is not accepted by the food banks that the Co-op currently supply. Use By dates are usually on products with a short shelf life and may not be sold after that date. Find the special sale bin in the store and pick up a leaflet giving more information or visit
