Scouting in Framlingham is provided by the 1st Framlingham Scout group which has a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop together with the Framlingham and Earl Soham (FRESH) Explorer Unit. We all meet in The Old Fire Station, Badingham Road. |
Beaver Scouts are aged 6 to 8 years. The Colony meets weekly during school terms from 5:15 to 6:15pm on Wednesday evenings and comprises about sixteen Beavers. Currently, the Colony is open only to boys. The Beaver section gives a gentle introduction to Scouting with a simple promise and a straightforward development programme leading up to the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award. In keeping with our motto "Fun & Friends", the emphasis is on meeting together to make friends and to take part in a variety of organised activities from team games to crafts and nature walks to pets presented in a light‑hearted way. Apart from our weekly meetings, we sometimes join other sections of the Group and also take part in joint Beaver meetings with other Colonies from our district or county. Beaver Leader – Linda Fiske 01728 724289 Regrettably, we have a waiting list for Beavers and this is maintained by Barbara Hall 01728 724124. |
Cubs Scouts are aged 8 to 10½ years. The Pack meets weekly during school terms from 6:45 to 8:15 on Wednesday evenings and comprises about twenty five Cubs. Currently, the Pack is open only to boys. The Cubs section provides a thorough introduction to Scouting with a promise between the simple one used by Beavers and the full promise used by the older sections. Cub Scouts have a fuller and more extensive development programme leading up to the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. Like Beavers we run a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities but Cubs also have nights away from home such as our annual Pack holiday and our summer camp. Cubs also join in district and county events. Group Scout Leader Keith McMillan 01728 724560 Regrettably, we have a waiting list for Cubs and this is maintained by Barbara Hall (01728 724124). |
Scouts are aged 10½ to 14 years. The Troop meets weekly during school terms from 7:00 to 9:00 on Thursday evenings and comprises about thirty Scouts. Currently, the Troop is open only to boys. The Scout section builds on the skills developed in Beavers and Cubs and Scouts take responsibility for managing and running more of their own activities. Scouts make the same promise as adults in Scouting and they have a more challenging progressive development programme leading up to the Chief Scout’s Gold Award. Scouts have a greater emphasis on outdoor activities and this includes a summer Troop camp in an area outside East Anglia (such as North Wales). Scouts also join in district and county events such as wet weekend and Mere Day. |
Explorers Scouts are aged 14 to 18 years. The Unit meets fortnightly during school terms from 8:15 to 9:45 on Wednesday evenings and comprises about thirty Explorers. The Unit is open to both boys and girls including both ex-Scouts and ex-Guides. The Explorer section is the oldest of the non-adult sections and Explorers are encouraged to organise, plan and run a range of indoor and outdoor activities under the general supervision of their leaders. Explorers make the full Scout promise and their development programme includes the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond Awards and, in exceptional cases, the prestigious Queen’s Scout Award. Explorers share a unit summer camp with the Scouts and they also participate in district and county events. Explorers also provide assistance to other sections in Group, District and County events.
