You're very welcome but this page is intended for board admins As our board is little customised we've found the easiest way to upgrade the software is to reinstall the new version. The job list is: 01. Download the latest full zipped version from phpbb.com/downloads.php You may have to override the Windows security to do this. 02. Unzip By default the unzip will go into a new directory. 03. Use the board's Administration Panel to backup the database. You may have to override the Windows security. The phpBB install does not overwrite the database but may modify it. 04. Use a FTP client to download public_html/phpbb/images and it's sub-directories. These directories contain the avatars, avatar gallery and smilies. The phpBB install does overwrite these directories. 05. Use a FTP client to download the file public_html/phpbb/config.php 06. Use a FTP client to delete all the contents of public_html/phpbb/ and all its sub-drectories except _vti_cnf Scary! 07. Use a FTP client to upload the all the new version files to public_html/phpbb/ 08. Use a FTP client to upload the previously downloaded file public_html/phpbb/config.php to overwrite. 09. In a web browser enter framlingham.com/phpbb/install/update_to_latest.php Ignore FAILURE reports bur ERROR is of concern. 10. Use a FTP client to delete the directories public_html/phpbb/contrib and public_html/phpbb/install 11. Use a FTP client to overwrite the directory public_html/phpbb/images with the downloaded version. 12. In a FTP clint set the attributes of public_html/phpbb/images/avatars and public_html/phpbb/images/smile to write, ie CHMOD 777 Failure to do this will only become a problem when a user tries to change or create their avatar or an admin tries to customise the smilies. zz. Done. Support documentation is the file phpBB download directory/docs/INSTALL.html and this list is based on section 6. Upgrade from previous Release Candidate versions of phpBB 2 |
